My second car was my first Audi. 2.23e, model-year 84, 4+E gearbox and gigantic in comparison to my 81 Jetta Diesel. Quite fast I accommodated to the additional horsepower and the characteristics of the 4+E gear boxes I already knew from my Jetta. That my family bought new in 81, while the Audi was only one year old when it joined our family. It served my father well and since 87 me too. But sometime, his time had come. 208.000km were not the main the reason, but the missing catalysator was a big drawback.
At first I wanted a smaller car, coidering the parking situatio at my university. But I realized that I rather walk longer than drive a small car on the Autobahn. So it was clear, the next car should be an Audi 100 with five cylinders again. But a Type44 or a C4? As the old one drove well still, we weren't in a hurry. From time to time my father and I would browse through the ads. He proposing 90PS fourcylinders and I offering Turbo quattros. In spring 1998 I was on holidays in Suedtirol (Southtirol? It is in the north of Italy) what was really fun on the narrow streets there ;))) On evening my father would phone the place we were stying at. "Watcha think off..." Well, what should I say? "Great!" Why? 2.3e, flared fenders, red rearlights, 100.000km on the clock, in great condition. My father: "Really drives fantasically!" Me: "You have to know, you have driven it." Him: "Hmm, we'll see."
When I arrived back home, no new 100 would stand before our house, but my father grinned very strangely. And in the garage, he stood, the New One! Funny: My father had seen the ad in a supermarket board in our village and the owner lived only some streets away. My father would not have visited the supermarket if I had had the time to get us some water from the shop. I buy it at another shop normally but did not have the time due to the preparations for my holidays. So my father had to buy it in the other supermarket where he saw the ad...
Vincent really looked great, but there was still room for improvement....

Sometimes, good is too easy
What do you do with a car that drives flawlessly? Right, you tune and tweak it or you buy a second one. As I would never make holes into "Vincent" (as VC is the license plate, due to the first owner, the JVC corporation) there only was the possibility to restore another car. Since March 30th, 2000 I am the proud owner of a bad looking Audi 100 Type43 twodoor limo! I do not know the name till now: Snowwhite or Cinderella?
